Advocacy Programme of VanDhanVikas Kendra project

The Advocacy Programme of VanDhan Vikas Kendra project held at Dhanubhanga, Goalpara on 6th January, 2020 organized by Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE),GuwahatiGovt. of Assam, sponsored by TRIFED.

Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana (PMVDY) is training based, Value Addition and Marketing programme being implemented as a Tribal entrepreneurship model. The scheme will cover all the 27 States & 307 predominant tribal districts in the country with the projected benefits. It will provide tribal livelihood generation & income enhancement for around 9 lakh tribal households in the first year and reach up to 45 lakhs tribal households in the next five years.

The Van DhanVikas Kendra project of Pradhan Mantri Van DhanYojana (PMVDY) for Assam was launched at IIE, Guwahati on 5th November, 2019, covering initially 16 Van Dhan Kendras.

The entire 16 Van Dhan Vikas Kendra (VDVK) programme in Assam is been launched on the 6th January,2020 through the advocacy programme at Dhanubhanga.

In this Advocacy programme Dr. Abhijit Sharma, Director, IIE, Mr. Phanidhar Rabha, EM , Forest & Irrigation , Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC),Mr. P.K. Barman,Manager, APTDC Ltd. & .Mr. S. SINGSON, Assistant Manager, TRIFED & & Mr. Hemanta Rabha, Project Head, IIE were present.

The main objectives of the advocacy programme isto create awareness among the tribal beneficiaries about the scheme, how it will help to generate income through value addition, branding& direct marketing of Minor Forest Products (MFPs). The Dhanubhanga (Goalpara) Kendra is going be the 1st Model Van DhanVikas Kendra (VDVK) in Assam. Besides this, Barbari, Baksa has been selected by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs,Govt. of India, to be the 2ndModel VDVK in Assam.

Under this model VDVK about 300 ST beneficiaries will be covered for aggregation of MFPs, branding, Marketing, Value edition etc.

As a part of the Scheme, various skill up-gradation trainings will be conducted for the MFP gatherers. The training also provides demonstrative tool kits to the trainees for promoting and adoption of scientific collection, harvesting and primary processing of MFPs.

Directorate of Welfare of Plains Tribes & Backward Classes, Assam (WPTBC), Govt. of Assam will act as State Nodal Agency, Assam Plains Tribes Development Corporation Ltd. (APTDC), Govt. of Assam as Implementing Agency with the technical support of Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Guwahati, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Govt. of India as Resource Agency.
